Outside Plant (OSP) Underground Construction Foreman

Summary:

The OSP Underground Construction Foreman Is A Critical Leadership Role. The Foreman Is Responsible For Effectively Leading, On A Daily Basis, An Underground Telecommunications Construction Crew (either In House Or Managing A Sub-contractor) From The Start Of A Project To Completion Keeping Safety, Quality, Budget And Timelines In Mind. The Foreman Will Typically Have 3 – 4 Crew Members Reporting Directly To Them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Complex Projects And Large Crews Including Accurate And Timely Performance Updates
  • Responsible For Reading A Set Of OSP Underground Designs / Plans
  • Determine Materials Needed For The Day/week/entire Project Based On Those Plans With Forethought Of Potential Issues That May Occur During The Build Out Process.
  • Ability To Build Each Site Based On The Set Of Plans.
  • Responsible For All Activities Of The Crew, Equipment And Company Resources, While Maximizing Crew Efficiency, With A Focus On Safety.
  • Ensures That Crew Performs Duties Within OSHA Safety Guidelines As Well As All Applicable Safety Laws And Policies.
  • Support And Assist Crew Members With All Assigned Tasks
  • Inspect And Ensure Quality Of Completed Projects
  • Report The Project Progress To OSP Construction Manager/Supervisor
  • Manage Risks And Manage To Avoid Delays.
  • Develop Your Crew’s Skill Set And Knowledge Of Underground Construction
  • Ensure All Work Is Completed In Accordance With The Customer’s Construction Standards, Processes, And Procedures.
  • Keep Safety As Your #1 Priority For Each Of Your Team Members: Adhering To Company Safety Standards And All Federal, State And Local Laws
  • Other Duties As Assigned By OSP Manager / Supervisor

Other Considerations:

  • Work Will Primarily Be Outdoors, In All Types Of Weather And Conditions
  • Will Be Exposed To Dust, Fluctuating Temperatures, And High Noise Levels
  • May Require Travel Within The United States

Education:

  • High School Diploma Or Its Equivalent

Experience:

  • 4-6 Years Field Supervision On OSP Telecommunications Underground Construction Projects Required
  • Advanced Understanding Of Coax And Fiber System Installation And Construction (including Directional Drilling, Trenching, Piercing, Etc.)
  • Knowledge Of Fiber Splicing, Coax Splicing (Passive And Active Coax Devices) A Plus
  • Proficient In Testing And Recording End Of Line RF Levels
  • Ability To Read Blueprint Details And Specifications
  • Proficient In The Operation Of Underground Locating Devices
  • Knowledge Of OSHA Safety Guidelines And Practical Use Of These Guidelines As Well As All Other Applicable Safety Laws And Policies Preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License Is Required (Valid CDL-A Is Preferred)
  • Ability To Pass A DOT Physical
  • Good Communication Skills, Both Oral And Written Preferred
  • Ability To Act Without Direct Supervision

  • Good Judgment With The Ability To Make Timely And Sound Decisions.
