Outside Plant (OSP) HFC & Fiber Engineer

Summary:

The OSP HFC (hybrid-fiber-coax) & Fiber Engineer Is Responsible For Completing The OSP Engineering Design For Our Telecommunications Customer, Meeting Their Quality Requirements In A Timely Manner. The Engineer Will Plan And Design HFC And Fiber Networks, Coordinate With Internal Drafting Teams, And Is Responsible For The OSP Life Cycle From Site Walk To Low Level Design. This Includes Gathering And Documenting Information On Permitting, Fiber Routing, Pole Profiles, Etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage The OSP Engineering Process From Project Award Through Permit Closeout And Design Submittal.
  • Accountable For Total Project Scope And Quality Control
  • Complete Field Surveys, ROW (right Of Way) Drawings, Asset Documentation, Etc. To Determine Best Routes For Construction.
  • Locate, Sketch, And Document Detail Information Of OSP Facilities: Cables, Poles, Ground Structures, Terminals, Manholes, And Equipment.
  • Underground And Aerial Permitting With State DOTs, Cities, Counties, Railroads, Environmental, And Other Permitting Authorities.
  • Make Ready Process For Aerial Construction Projects.
  • Acquire The Necessary Field Information, Record Verifications, Document Preparation, Required To Prepare Work Order Construction Prints.
  • Take Detailed Field Notes For The Design, Including Measurements, Notes, And Photos Of The Proposed Telecommunications Network Construction Locations, Cable Routes, And Equipment Site.
  • Provide QA Of The Construction Drawings Using The Customer’s Quality Requirements.
  • Deliver The Finished Product To The Customer In A Professional Format.
  • Document Changes To Or Modifications Of Customer Specifications.
  • Track & Report Job Progress.
  • Interact With Customer On Developing Specifications For Proposed Projects.
  • Lead Meetings And Subsequent Coordination Activities With Pole Owners / Utilities Regarding Make–ready Submittals, Design And Construction Requirements And Activities.
  • Other Duties As Assigned

  • This Is An Outdoors Position. Must Be Willing To Work In The Elements
  • Must Be Able To Site Walk Any Land Scenario To Gather Info On Poles, ROW, HH Placement.
  • Must Be Able To Walk Long Distances.
  • Must Be Able To Use Computers, Phones, & Tablets
  • Must Be Able To See Different Colors And Use Binoculars
  • Must Have Vehicle To Use. Mileage Reimbursed At The Federal Rate
  • Must Be Willing To Travel When Projects Call For It
  • Must Be Flexible In Their Schedule To Work Odd Hours At Times.
  • Must Be Able To Work Multiple Jobs At A Time Putting Equal Focus On Each So That All Jobs Are Completed In A Timely Manner.

Education:

High School Diploma Or Its Equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum Of 5 Years Of Experience In Designing HFC And Fiber Optic Networks
    Detailed Knowledge Of OSP HFC And Fiber Networks And CATV Design Standards And Requirements
  • Outstanding Communication Skills (both Written And Verbal) And Customer Service Skills.
  • Competent In Reading Work Prints And Understanding Highway And Road Prints, Utility Engineering Drawings And Plans, And Identifying Conflicts With Existing Outside Plant Facilities
  • Experience With Industry Tools, E.g., Measuring Wheels, Height Sticks, Pull Finders, MH/HH Hooks, Etc.
  • Proficient With Microsoft Office, Especially Excel.
  • Motivation And Self-direction In Performing To Critical Deadlines.
  • Ability To Multi-task In A Fast Paced Environment.
  • Excellent Project And Time Management Skills.
  • Detail Oriented And Demonstrates Good Organizational Skills.
  • Ability To Maintain A High Level Of Confidentiality And Use Good Judgment In Day-to-day Activities.
