Outside Plant (OSP) HFC Designer

Summary:

The OSP HFC (hybrid-fiber-coax) Designer Prepares, Maintains And Supports Detailed Engineering And Design Drawing Files And Schematics Using SpatialNet And Computer-Aided Design (CAD). This Includes Planning And Designing HFC Networks, Coordinating With Internal Teams And External Contractors, And Maintaining Accurate Records Of Network Infrastructure And Equipment. The OSP HFC Designer Works Closely With Design Originators (e.g., Engineers, Construction) To Resolve Design Details Or Discrepancies, Or To Prepare Drawings Of Unusual, Complex, Or Original Designs, Which Require A High Degree Of Precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafts And Designs Network Maps, Layouts, Drawings And Detailed Electronic Construction Prints For HFC And Fiber Optic Networks
  • Perform Plant Redesigns
  • Accurately Read Walkout Information
  • Updates As-builts As Construction Is Completed And Releases The Area
  • Prepares Bill Of Materials For Projects
  • Quality Check Mapping And Network Design And Negotiate Design And/or Construction Changes
  • Create Fiber Splicing Matrixes For Projects
  • Maintain Accurate Weekly Production Records And Provide Reports As Necessary
  • Update Milestone Tracking Databases
  • Provide Cost Estimating Based On Contracted Rates
  • Identify When A Walkout May Be Needed, And Request And Manage That Walkout
  • Review Completed Design For Errors And Efficiency
  • Serve As Technical Liaison For Construction Group
  • Provide Training To New Hires Regarding Computer Programs And Department Procedures
  • Learn New Software And Adapt To New Technology When Required
  • Ability To Handle And Prioritize Multiple Projects At One Time With Accuracy
  • Ensure Design Specifications Are Maintained

Education:

High School Diploma Or Its Equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum Of 3 Years Of Experience In Designing HFC And Fiber Optic Networks
  • Proven Knowledge Of SpatialNet, BricsCAD, AutoCAD
  • Knowledge Of Industry Standards And Regulations Related To HFC Networks
  • Proven Experience Reading And Understanding Highway And Road Prints, Utility Engineering Drawings And Plans, And Identifying Conflicts With Existing Outside Plant Facilities
  • Computer And Microsoft Office Proficiency
  • Understanding Of CATV HFC Design Standards And Requirements
  • Experience In Various Customer Applications, Including P2, Preferred
  • Must Be Able To Pass Pre-employment Screening That Includes Background And Drug Testing
  • Must Have A Valid Driver’s License And A Driving Record That Meets Company Requirements
  • Sitting At A Desk For 6-8 Hours A Day
  • Working On A Computer For 6-8 Hours A Day
  • May Be Required To Work Long And Unpredictable Hours
